Following its launch and inaugural winner last year, the Alec Wright Team Green Memorial Trophy – to be awarded at the NEC Motorcycle show in November - will be the ultimate focus for eleven Kawasaki Team Green riders in 2011.
The trophy, presented to the rider that achieves the highest levels of success on track combined with outstanding personal presentation, was awarded in 2010 to 16 year old motocross rider Connor Walkley from Caerphilly in South Wales. Winner of the BYMX and MXY2 Championships on his Team Green Kawasaki KX250F, Walkley achieved the top spot thanks to both his outstanding on-track performances and his growing maturity and professional approach as a rider.
Named after the founder of the Team Green concept, Alec Wright, the Team Green Memorial Trophy candidates this year include eight tarmac racers and three motocross riders. Featuring on podiums and at the front of the field in their chosen racing disciplines during the early part of the season, Team Green riders are already enjoying considerable racing success including a first Superstock 1000 win for 17 year old Danny Buchan on his MSS Colchester Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R.
Commenting on this year's competition, Racing Coordinator for Kawasaki Motors UK, Ross Burridge, said:
"Connor Walkley has set the bar commendably high and this year's contenders for the Alec Wright Team Green Memorial Trophy will have to work hard to match or exceed his achievements. As a way of encouraging and refining young racing talent, Team Green has no equal and we are sure this year will produce another worthy victor."
