Gearlink Kawasaki win at Brands Hatch

Ben Wilson gave Gearlink Kawasaki the best possible start to the new season when he dominated the first of two races at Brands Hatch in round one of the British Supersport Championship.

The Lincolnshire ace went on to claim fourth in race two while the celebrations were completed by Jesse Trayler who scored two points finishes to bring the total points haul for the weekend to 44. Wilson was in top form all weekend and topped the practice and qualifying sheets in each session, his pace as hot as the sunny conditions at the Kent circuit.

He started the first race on Sunday from pole position on his Ninja ZX-6R and was never troubled throughout the 18 laps crossing the finish line some 2.4s ahead of Paul Young to take the first win of the season. He also set the fastest lap of the race with a 47.128s – 92.27mph on lap four of the race.

Wilson got away to another good start in the second race. He led for the majority of the 26 laps but once tyre wear came into play he was beaten back to third, falling into the clutches of Steve Plater who got his wheel in front on the drag to the flag. But the action at the front was fast and furious and the top four riders crossed the finish line separated by just 0.3s.

Meanwhile a little further down the field, Jesse Trayler began his campaign from 18th place on the grid. He made steady progress to complete the first race in a fine 12th position going on to claim 14th place and a further two championship points in race two taking his tally for the weekend to six.

Ben Wilson
"I was delighted with the win in race one although I was a little disappointed I missed out on a podium finish in race two. But I am leading the championship by two points and we move straight on to Oulton Park at the weekend when I will try and do the business for Gearlink Kawasaki once again."

Jesse Trayler
"I started the first race from row five of the grid but I stuck in some consistent lap times and managed to make up quite a few places. In the second outing I picked off a few riders and had a good scrap with others. I beat a few more experienced riders out there so that was very positive. My lap times were better than in the first race which is encouraging. It's just a pity the tyre went off towards the end of the race as I felt I could have caught the group ahead of me. "

Michael De Bidaph – Team Owner and Manager
"The weekend has been really good; we have been up at the top in practice and on pole for both races. It was the first pole for Ben with the team so I am really happy with that. Ben won the first race but was knocked back to fourth in the second. But we are delighted that we are leading the championship. I think we went with the wrong tyre which is just one of those things. We have to leave here feeling pleased and move on to Oulton Park this coming weekend. We realise this is going to be a tough old championship this year – but bring it on!"
